Lassen County Department of Child Support Services: End of the Year License Release

The Lassen County Department of Child Support Services is offering parents owing support on cases managed by their department a special way to start the year right. Between December 1st and the end of the year driver’s licenses for those that are behind can be released for just a minimal payment.

“Here’s the breakdown of why December will be a  good time to get a license released,” explains Child Support Specialist III Regina Richardson, “Under normal circumstances it would take a payment of 5% of the total arrears balance or 3 months consecutive of full payments before a license is released.”

During the event licenses will be released for one full payment of current support. According to Richardson the department can’t legally take anything less if there’s current support ordered.

The department can take any payment if the case doesn’t have current support ordered.

“Most people with suspended licenses can’t afford the full payment or the 5% depending on their balances but just about anyone can come up with some sort of payment during the month of December, said Richardson.

“They will be able to start 2020 with a license which hopefully will help with employment prospects for the new year.”
