Lassen National Forest Plans Public Field Trip to Discuss 5-County OHV Plan

Lassen National Forest is hosting a public field trip to discuss the Lassen National Forest Five County Off-Highway Vehicle Plan and tour some areas of interest for that plan.

The Five County OHV Plan intent is to enhance access for off-highway vehicles while limiting impacts to watersheds, habitat and cultural resource sites.

Improved management of wheeled vehicle use on National Forest System lands would allow the Forest Service to enhance opportunities for access and enjoyment of the National Forest System, including motorized and non-motorized recreation experiences.

This Plan seeks to authorize the use of off-highway vehicles on select Forest roads, and does not include closure of Forest roads. The Lassen National Forest’s goal is to have a transportation system that is manageable, environmentally sensitive and economically viable.

While this project is in its initial planning stages, early engagement of the public and stakeholders is critical to the Lassen National Forest’s planning effort.

The field trip is scheduled for October 20th at 10:00a.m., and will begin at the Bogard Rest Area on Highway 44.

“Remember your walking shoes, appropriate clothing for the weather, and bring a snack or lunch,” said Jennifer Erickson, LNF’s Acting Public Affairs Officer.

Please RSVP by October 11th to [email protected] or (530)252-6604.
