Lassen National Forest’s Almanor Ranger District will offer its next guided snowshoe walk on Friday, January 22nd at Morgan Summit Snowmobile Area on Highway 36. Participants will enjoy views of tall sierra conifers, snow-covered mountains, and quiet valleys while learning about basic winter survival skills, the flora and fauna of the area, and local history.
“This is a great way to explore public lands,” said Almanor District Acting Recreation Officer Stacy Kronner. “The walk will be geared toward beginners but may become strenuous if there is deep snow or powder.”
Attendees must be at least eight years old, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes are available free of charge, but cross-country skiers must provide their own equipment.
Participants can either meet at the Almanor Ranger District Office at 12:15 pm to carpool or at Morgan Summit Snowmobile Area at 1 pm. All interested parties must contact Stacy Kronner in advance at (530) 258-5162 or [email protected] to register.
This is the second guided outing of the season organized by the Almanor Ranger District. Future walks, scheduled for February 5th, February 19th, and March 4th, will feature destinations that include Locherman Canyon, Almanor Recreation Trail, McGowan Cross-Country Ski Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail as weather conditions permit. All programs require reservations.
