The Lassen Land and Trail Trust will be hosting a stakeholder workshop on Wednesday, May 7th, to invite public comments on the extension of the Bizz Johnson Trail between Richmond Road and Alexander Avenue.
Earlier this year, LLTT received a grant to purchase the 7.1 acre vacant property behind the historic Susanville Railroad Depot from a willing seller. The grant was funded by the California Department of Parks and Recreation through the Recreational Trails Program.
The grant was one of only six awarded state wide, and LLTT expects to close on the acquisition by early summer.
“We are excited about acquiring this property in the heart of Susanville to add to the inventory of trails and parks in Lassen County,” said Elizabeth Norton, Chair of LLTT’s Trails Committee. “It has long been identified as an important trail connector between the Bizz and the proposed Skyline Extension bikeway planned by the county to connect Route 36 and Alexander Avenue along the old Fernley-Lassen line.”
“This property has great potential to add to the community and we are looking forward to hearing suggestions on how it could be developed and managed as a trail connector and recreational resource,” added Norton. The stakeholder meeting will include a walk through the property followed by an opportunity to share ideas.
The Wednesday, May 7th, stakeholder meeting will start at 5:00 p.m. at the Historic Susanville Depot, located at 601 Richmond Road. Please RSVP by calling LLTT at (530) 257-3252 if you plan to attend.
