Utility Service Sold at Lassen
December 5, 1945

Sale of the power plant and lines of the Red River Lumber co. in Westwood and vicinity, to the Pacific Gas and Electric co, means little if any immediate difference to Honey Lake valley, according to M. D. McKenzie of the local office of the California-Pacific Utilities Co.

The transfer does mean there will be less danger of current cutoff after the P. G. and E. completes the new lines around the southeast corner of Lake Almanor, McKenzie added.

Under the Red River set-up power for Susanville and the valley came from the Hat Creek hydro-electric plant.

As stand-ins there were the small hydro plant on Hamilton Branch and the steam plant at the Fruit Growers’ mill.

Power for the latter will no longer be available, but in its place the new line being built will bring current from the big P. G. and E. hydro-electric plant at Caribou.
