Guard Rail Asked on Highway West of Susanville
January 24, 1937
The city council last night passed a resolution unanimously asking the department of public works to erect guard rails at the most dangerous points on the highway just west of Susanville.
The resolution pointed out that the cliff along the edge of the highway is very steep and enumerated the accidents that have occurred on the section of the highway from the city limits to a point approximately one and one-half miles to the west.
J. H. Rust, highway maintenance engineer for this district, was present and expressed himself as being heartily in accord with the movement to secure some assurance of safety to motorists at the points mentioned along the highway.
It is urged I the resolution that the department of public works take steps immediately to remedy the condition.
The problem of keeping Main Street in good condition during the snowy season was discussed and it was agreed that some of the snow piled in the center of the street should be removed. Work began today.
