Burglary, Robbery Reported in Lassen
January 30, 1953
A burglary and armed robbery at and near Westwood Friday night were reported by the sheriff’s office. A Seattle man claimed he was robbed of about $900 by two armed robbers about a mile this side of the Westwood Y.
Burglars stole about $500 from a small safe in the Westwood Club the same night. Two armed robbers entered the Westwood Club at closing time the previous Sunday night, January 11, and took about $7 from the two bartenders, Larry Rineboldt and James Tipton.
Carl Leonard, a car salesman from Seattle, Wash., said he stopped his car in Highway 36 a short distance from the Y, near the entrance of Westwood, at about 11:30 Friday night and got out to wipe the snow from the lens of his headlights. A car with no lights drive up behind him, he said, and two men got out and held him up. They took about $900 from his billfold, and then kicked him twice in the groin, he reported, after he requested they return the billfold.
