Lassen Youths Sign Up for Army

Many Susanville youths are deserting the plains and ranges for voluntary military service in the army and marine corps, according to Chief of Police W. O. Long.

Long has been called upon with the past few days to investigate the records of a number of volunteers who offered their services before draft by registration.

Leaving Susanville Tuesday were, Marvin Samuel Sherman, 1433 Prospect Avenue; Ralph Fred McCallister of Milford and Chesley Hillman DeForest of 1214 Pardee Avenue, all cowboys of Susanville.

A day or so before that Long investigated several whose names he did not recall. Of this group one was a “cowpuncher” of the Ravendale district. It is estimated some 50 young men from here have volunteered in the past month.
