Gas Prospectors Meet Barrier
September 10, 1933

Hundreds rushed to the vicinity of Honey Lake dry bed and located claims when it was reported that natural gas had been discovered there the early part of last week when Zebnoi Johnson was having a well bored for water.

It is said that men hurried here and there like in a mad gold rush to locate claims. It was later learned that all the land had been withdrawn from entry by an order issued from the White House om March 28, 1932 headed Withdrawal of Public Lands for Military Purposes as follows.

Under authority contained in the act of June 25 1910 (26 Stat 847-838) as amended by the act of August 24 1912 (37 Stat 497) and subject to the conditions provisions and limitations of said acts it is hereby ordered that the public lands in the township hereinafter described be and the same are hereby withdrawn from settlement location sale entry and all forms of appropriation subject to all valid existing rights and held for the exclusive and benefit of the war department for military purposes.

The order was signed by President Herbert Hoover.
