Local Telecoms Suffer Outage Across the Region

Updated 6:53p.m. – 6:30 p.m. PST crews have been able to restore service to some areas of the PST network. “Crews are working to make needed repairs and continuing to work diligently to bring up the rest of the PST system. Not ETR at this time. Again, we cannot apologize enough to our customers for this outage. We understand its’ impact and appreciate your continued patience as our crews work to restore service.” – Emily Compton

It’s hard to find a connection for some folks this morning as Frontier Internet, Verizon and Plumas-Sierra Telecommunications are all reporting outages here in northeastern California.

The outages have affected businesses throughout Susanville since about 7:30 Friday night, limiting services such as Square payments and Credit Card processing in stores and at gas pumps.

As of 9:45 Saturday morning Plumas Sierra Telecommunication’s Member and Energy Services Manager Emily Compton said that PST’s crews were able to determine that the PST fiber network is experiencing significant equipment issues.

She did not say if the PST outage is related to Frontier or Verizon’s.

“Staff and crews are engaged and working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible, but we still do not have an estimated time of restoration. Thank you again for your patience.”

According to Verizon’s outage map, customers in the Alturas and Likely areas are without service.
