If you are a home gardener or landscaper and feel that you could help others answer their questions about growing their own green belt, Lassen County is now looking for you! The University of California Master Gardener Program has come to Lassen County, and will begin in earnest to recruit and train Master Gardener volunteers who in turn help other local gardeners with their questions or problems to put their ground to work.
The UC Master Gardener Program extends to the public UC research-based information about home horticulture and pest management.
In exchange for the training and materials received from the University of California, Master Gardeners perform volunteer services in a myriad of venues, such as teaching workshops, lecturing on gardening practices, answering gardeners’ questions via email or help lines, speaking to the public on horticultural and gardening topics, consulting with gardeners to improve their landscape practices, or manning county fair information booths.
The mission statement for the UC Master Gardener Program is “To extend research based knowledge and information on home horticulture, pest management, and sustainable landscape practices to the residents of California.”
Teresa Pustejovsky has recently been hired to coordinate the program in Lassen County. Teresa has lived in Susanville for 18 years, and has worked extensively on outdoor projects ranging from restoration of Eagle Lake rainbow trout, to directing both the Eagle Lake 5K and Paiute Meadows Runs and has pro shop experience at Diamond Mountain Golf Course. She is enthusiastic about the opportunities to develop the program locally.
UC Master Gardener volunteers can help you become a better gardener. They are locally trained experts who will answer your questions about home horticulture, sustainable landscaping, and integrated pest management using University of California research-based information.
