The Susanville Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 2550 Riverside Drive Wednesday morning, after receiving a report of a passenger vehicle on fire.
“Upon arrival, Engine-621 observed a vacant, single vehicle with moderate smoke, and flames coming from the engine compartment,” details SFD Captain Andrew Jarret.
“Engine-621 initiated fire suppression at the front of the vehicle and stabilized the vehicle. The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished.”
According to Captain Jarrett the fireās spread was slowed by the quick reaction of a US Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer.
After the fire was extinguished, a fire cause and origin investigation was conducted mechanical failure was determined to be the cause.
“This is supported by the location of the origin and fire damage intensity found in the engine compartment next to the driver-side headlight,” explains Jarrett.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. SFD was supported by the Susanville Police Department, Susanville Public Works and US Forest Service Law Enforcement.
