More Than 1,000 Vaccinated at County’s COVID-19 Drive-Thru Clinic

An overhead look at Wednesday’s clinic at Lassen College

Lassen County’s Public Health Department is calling their mass COVID-19 drive-thru vaccination clinic an, “incredibly successful event,” after more than a thousand Lassen County residents were able to get their COVID-19 vaccination at Lassen College on Wednesday.

“A big thanks to everyone who took part in this momentous event, and to the agencies they represent,” the Lassen COVID-19 Incident Command said in a statement released Thursday afternoon.

“You all are examples of why Lassen County is a testament to how strong partnerships make remarkable things happen. Our community collaboration not only allowed us to pull off a successful event but was necessary to protect the citizens of Lassen.”

The Public Health Department will be contacting everyone who received the vaccine at the clinic to schedule their 2nd dose prior to a second drive-thru clinic that will be held on Wednesday, April 14th, at the college. This will help reduce the wait time.

LCPH began vaccinating the county’s most vulnerable populations on December 19th, of last year. Since then, they have offered vaccinations to all the state defined eligible populations.

“Through outreach we will continue to make vaccinating our vulnerable populations a top priority. We are asking that if you or a loved one falls into a priority category contact us and we will make vaccination arrangements.”

Lassen County is now making COVID-19 vaccinations available to all Lassen County residents who are 18 years and older.

“We will continue to work on scheduling people who are on our waiting list but were not able to make it yesterday and will offer clinics to residents living in the outlying areas of Lassen County. To request a vaccination appointment, visit www.Lassencares.org and complete a vaccination appointment request or call (530) 249-2628.

“We are well on our way to population immunity! Population immunity is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through an earlier infection. We believe we can achieve this goal in Lassen County by the end of April.”

Please remember that health experts are still learning about the health characteristics of COVID-19 and that vaccinations may not totally protect you from contracting or transmitting the virus; However, research shows that vaccinated individuals may have up to 95% protection or experience less severe symptoms from COVID-19 when completing the manufacturers’ recommended dosage.

“We ask that you continue to social distance and use face coverings when around people who are at-risk of COVID-19 or who have not been vaccinated.”
