Firefighters from the Susanville Fire Department responded to a vacant residence on Hall Street Monday morning, arriving to find a single-story structure with fire and smoke showing in the front and rear attic area.
Engine 621 initiated an attack on the front of the structure.
“As other resources arrived on the scene, they were assigned to suppression operations,” explains SFD Captain Andrew Jarrett.
“The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished.”
According to Jarrett, an investigation showed that the structure was vacant, but appeared to have recently been occupied by vagrants.
“The fire originated in the wood stove and extended into the attic due to the stove pipe not being connected in the attic area.”
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries and the fire department was supported by Cal-FIRE, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Susanville Police Department, Susanville Public Works, and Lassen Municipal Utility District.
