The numbers are in and the 2013 Lassen County Fairgrounds Festival of Lights was a huge success with 875 vehicles, plus three buses for the Kiwanis Senior Tour night taking the tour through the grounds to see the light displays.
The numbers are only slightly down from December of 2012 which included one more weekend than this year. On Christmas Eve the Light Festival was visited by an amazing 205 vehicles.
“With the way the calendar fell this year we had fewer weekends in December for the light show,” explained show organizer Mike Justice, “We were open for 10 nights, compared with 13 nights in 2012. With the fewer nights our total was down, but not much, even with the fewer nights.”
Fair Manager Jim Wolcott thanked Mike and Kathy Justice for the many hours that the couple devotes to decorated and promoting the annual event.
This year the fair also helped decorate the east end of town with festive Christmas trees surrounding it’s electronic marquee on Main Street. The display has room for 9 different clubs, organizations, businesses or individuals to erect and decorate a tree for all of Susanville to enjoy.
“We were very appreciative of the other groups who came in and put up displays,” said Justice, “Search and Rescue, Teen Court, Janesville 4H all returned and the Blue Star Moms brought in the trailer display from their uptown parade, which was a nice addition.”
