The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from 11:00 this morning until 8:00 this evening.
Winds will be out of the southwest at 15 to 25mph with gusts up to 35mph.
Because of these winds, combined with last night’s poor overnight humidity recovery, minimum humidity will fall to between 7-13% this afternoon for a period of four to eight hours.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
