The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Lassen, eastern Plumas and Sierra counties, warning that heavy snow and ice accumulations are possible, even down to the valley floor, beginning at 4:00p.m., today.
Heavy snow is expected with freezing rain possible in the Honey Lake Valley late Sunday into Monday morning.
Forecasters expect total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches below 5,000 feet, with 8 to 18 inches above 5,000 feet, highest south and west of Susanville.
Travel could be very difficult with freezing rain possible in addition to snow in the Honey Lake Basin. The hazardous conditions will impact late holiday weekend travel.
Avoid travel if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit with extra food, water and clothing. If you stay home, have a backup plan in case of power outages.
