Good afternoon everybody! Here is a quick update on the storm that the NWS is forecasting to affect Lassen and Plumas counties on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service’s Reno office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 1:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., Wednesday.
Forecasters are expecting light to moderate snow beginning between midnight and 3:00a.m. Wednesday. Snow will continue through late morning before turning to snow showers for Wednesday afternoon and early evening.
Above 5,500 feet snow accumulations will range from 3 to 8 inches. Here on the valley floor, we can expect 1 to 3 inches.
Snow LevelsÂ
Snow levels will start out at 5,500 to 6,000 feet early Wednesday morning falling to 4,500 to 5,000 feet by noon Wednesday. This means precipitation may start as a rain and snow mix early Wednesday morning… before quickly changing over to all snow.
Delays and chain controls are likely for passes across the far northern Sierra including Yuba Pass and Fredonyer Summit, and for higher elevations of highways 44, 36 and 70. Allow extra time for travel and carry chains.
The weather service is reminding motorists that even light snowfall can cause major travel delays, especially during periods of high traffic volume. Leave extra space between vehicles since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.
