Forecasters at the National Weather Service’s office in Reno have issued a Fire Weather Watch warning northeastern California to prepare for thunderstorms and strong outflow winds from late Sunday night to Monday evening.
Scattered mixed, wet and dry thunderstorms will form late Sunday night through Monday.
Gusts up to 50mph possible near these storms.
Recent hot and dry conditions have created very receptive vegetation to new lightning fires. New fire starts and may combine with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires and follow local fire restrictions.
