NWS Weather Bulletin: Snow on the Way? Today? Maybe!

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory which will be in effect from 5:00p.m. today until 4:00 Sunday morning.

Forecasters are warning that an abrupt change in the weather will be in store today through Sunday as a strong cold front approaches the region. Strong, gusty winds are expected this afternoon with rough lakes, gusty cross winds and areas of blowing dust possible.

The front will result in snowfall across the Sierra and western Nevada valley floors this evening into Sunday morning. Strong and gusty east winds will develop across the Sierra ridgetops Sunday evening into Monday. Drier and warmer weather is on tap next week.

Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected below 5,000 feet, with localized amounts up to 5 inches west of US 395.

A sudden burst of moderate to heavy snowfall is possible during frontal passage. Travel could be difficult with periods of low visibility along with slick and snow-covered road conditions.

Even light snowfall causes major travel delays, especially during periods of high traffic volume. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since
it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.

The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
