An unidentified man has been arrested after the Susanville Police Department, the Susanville Fire Department and Cal-Fire investigated two Sunday morning vegetation fires.
The City Fire Department, along with one engine from Cal-Fire, responded to the first of the two fires at around 6:00 Sunday morning
According to Susanville City Fire Chief James Moore at 05:59hrs the Susanville Fire Department along with one engine from Cal Fire responded to find a ¼ acre grass fire backing down the hill behind the residence at 890 Cherry Terrace.
An aggressive direct attack was performed and the fire was contained and extinguished at ½ acre.
Moore said that the cause of the fire was determined to be human and suspicious in nature.
Total equipment committed to the incident included 1 Chief, 3 Engines, 2 SPD units, 1 Cal-Fire Prevention Officer.
At 9:25 the same morning the Fire Department along with one engine from Cal-Fire, responded to a reported grass fire in the area of 755 Alexander Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a 1/10 acre fire in heavy grass with a moderate rate of spread. Once again an aggressive direct attack was performed and the fire was extinguished and contained to .15 acres.
This fire was also determined to be human caused and suspicious in nature.
Total equipment committed to the incident was 1 Chief, 3 Engines, 2 SPD units, 1 Cal Fire Prevention Officer, and 1 SFD utility.
“During the second incident,” explained Chief Moore, “Susanville Police Officer Warner contacted witnesses to the incident which led to an investigation involving the Susanville Police Department, Susanville Fire Department, and Cal-Fire.”
The investigation lead to the identification and arrest of one subject who is suspected of causing both vegetation fires.
