Only a Handful of Customers Affected by Quick Replacement of Watermain

The December 29th replacement of a water main under Harris Drive, which had the potential to affect hundreds in uptown Susanville, was completed so quickly by the City Public Works Department that only a small number of water-users experienced an interruption in service.

According to details released by the City, their contractor, Rapid Construction, replaced a section of old steel watermain under Harris Drive with a new ductile iron watermain.

“The work was completed quickly and without incident, therefore most customers did not experience any interruption in service. It is likely that only a small number of customers were impacted. The work has been completed and no additional shut downs are planned at this time.”

Much of the western part of Susanville had been warned to expect a six-hour shut off last Tuesday morning.

The shutdown occurred between the hours of 9:30a.m. and 1:00p.m., and during that time many customers reduced water consumption which, according to the City, was a significant factor in so few customers losing service.

The Public Works Department thanked customers in the impacted area.

If you are a Susanville Water Customer and experienced a loss of water service or reduced pressure on December 29th, between the hours of 9:30a.m. and 1:00p.m., the Public Works Department would like to hear from you. Please call them at 257-1041.
