An overloaded electrical circuit is being blamed for a residential structure fire on Fourth Street that firefighters contained to the attic of the home.
On November 18th, shortly after 10:30a.m., the Susanville Fire Department, along with automatic aid from Cal Fire and Susan River Fire Protection District responded to the fire in the 1200 block of Fourth Street to find a single-story residential structure with moderate smoke coming from the attic vent. All occupants were out of the residence.
“Aggressive firefighter tactics contained the fire to the attic with no extension,” explained Fire Captain Tom Hernandez.
The investigation determined the cause to be an overloaded electrical circuit in the attic and according to Captain Hernandez there was no structural damage to the residence.
Personnel and equipment on scene included two Chief Officers, three police officer units, one building inspector, one fire truck, one ladder truck, a CalFire engine and a CalFire prevention unit.
Susan River Fire Protection District firefighters were called to the fire, but were cancelled before arriving.
