A Johnstonville resident fired a single-shot at a pitchfork wielding intruder early Sunday, striking the man who then fled the scene and was later arrested on charges which included Attempted Murder.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call shortly after midnight reporting that a man had shot an intruder, and deputies were dispatched to an address on Johnsonville Road, according to details released by Sheriff Dean Growdon.

“The intruder entered the residence by breaking a sliding glass door with a brick,” explained Growdon. “He then attacked the 88-year-old resident with a pitch fork, stabbing him in the arm.”

The resident fired one shot, hitting the intruder, who turned and ran back outside the residence, fleeing the scene before Deputies arrived.

They searched the area for the wounded intruder but were unable to locate him.

Based on eyewitness accounts, they were able to obtain an arrest warrant for a suspect identified as 57-year old Susanville resident Tobie Guffee.

“Approximately eighteen hours later,” said Growdon, “the suspect was taken into custody in the area of Russell Avenue in Susanville without incident.”

Guffee was booked into the Lassen County Jail on a variety of charges including attempted murder.
