A 21-year old Esparto, California man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly stole a car that had been left unattended in the parking lot of the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce on Main Street.
According to Susanville Police Captain Ryan Cochran, officers responded to the Chamber office at around 2:40p.m. and learned that a male subject had stolen a vehicle that was parked and running in the parking lot.
“Within minutes after the theft,” explains Captain Cochran, “a Lassen County Sheriff Deputy observed a vehicle matching the description pull up behind him on Main Street near Riverside Drive.”
The Deputy was able to get behind the vehicle and follow it.
A Bureau of Land Management Ranger who was in the area joined the Deputy, following the vehicle until the suspect parked at the Super 8 Motel.
The Deputy and BLM Ranger contacted the male driver, who was identified as Ronnie Albee Carbahal, and detained him until SPD Officers arrived.
Carbahal was booked into the Lassen County Jail for auto theft and his bail was set at $20,000.
