Police Seeking Suspects Tied to Two Local Burglaries

policeupdate3The Susanville Police Department is investigating two burglaries which occurred earlier in the week – the theft of tools and portable generators from Lassen College and another burglary at Jackson’s Service Center on Main Street. Evidence collected at the scenes of both crimes indicate they were committed by the same suspect or suspects and the Police Department is seeking the public’s help in tracking them down.

On the morning of January 3rd, according to Susanville Police Chief Tom Downing, officers from the Susanville Police Department were dispatched to Lassen Community College for a reported burglary. Officers arrived to learn that someone had broken into the maintenance building at the college sometime during the previous night.  It was reported at that time that the unknown suspect stole numerous tools and two generators.

Later that morning officers were dispatched to the Walmart parking lot regarding a traffic collision with a parked vehicle. While on-scene officers learned that the vehicle involved in the collision was possibly stolen from Lassen College. Contact with personnel at LCC confirmed that the college-owned Ford pickup was missing and stolen during the burglary.

A portion of the stolen tools were recovered in the vehicle.  The individual driving the vehicle was questioned and released at that time.

On January 4th, at around 9:20am officers were dispatched to Jackson’s Service Center on a report of a prior burglary.  While investigating this incident, officers learned that sometime over the weekend a lock on a rear door was cut and someone entered the business, stealing a case of motor oil.

“Evidence collected at both crime scenes appears to indicate that both crimes were perpetrated by the same individual or individuals,” explained Chief Downing. “The Susanville Police Department is diligently investigating the leads in these cases, and seeks the assistance of the public.”

If anyone has any information related to these incidents, they are urged to call the Susanville Police Department’s 24 hour dispatch line at (530) 257-2171.  You can remain anonymous if you wish.
