The Eagle Lake Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest is working two prescribed burn projects near Highway 44 west of Susanville this week.
The Forest Service will conduct one prescribed burn near the intersection of Highway 44 and County Road A21 near Long Lake, with a second burn project ignited near the Bogard Campground.
Burning on both projects begins today and, weather permitting, will continue for the next 4 to 7 days.
According to Lassen National Forest Public Affairs Specialist Esther Miranda-Cole, the number of piles ignited daily will be based on weather and wind conditions so that smoke impacts to the highway are minimal to none.
The projects are located in a remote area and while visible along Highway 44 the smoke should not impact any communities.
