Raymond Kenneth Stout – June 6, 2024

Raymond Kenneth Stout, affectionately known as Pete, passed away June 6, 2024 in Susanville. Pete has been a long-time resident of Susanville since relocating here at the age of 7. He was born on December 20, 1934 in Fort Smith Arkansas to Leroy and Ruth Dorothy Stout. He was the 3rd of 4 boys.

Pete was known for his commitment to family and friends, involvement in youth activities, and passionate work ethic.

Pete met the love of his life, Marion “Ruth” Stout, they married on June 26th, 1954. They were blessed to have 4 children and to be married for close to 50 years before her passing.

Besides raising his family Pete had many close friends and chosen family. He spent his free time tinkering and repairing cars, fishing at eagle lake, or spending time with his many grandchildren or bonus grandchildren in any and all hobbies. He was always willing to cheer on a kid who didn’t have someone there for them and was always seen in the crowd at any youth sporting activity cheering for all teams or competitors.

Pete’s passion for youth led to him being activity involved with many youth organizations over the years. He served as a Boy Scout leader, helped with Campfire girls, coached and volunteered little league, and helped with HLVA playdays just to name a few. His true love was when he became deeply involved in Job’s Daughters, first as a parent, then as Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel #46 of Susanville. He became a Mason in 1982, and was a member of Lassen-Janesville Lodge #149 in Susanville, served as master of the lodge twice. He served in many other masonic organizations including Eastern Star and Demolay.

Pete was a workhorse and a jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t do or fix. His grandchildren would joke that nothing was broken unless Grandpa couldn’t fix it. He held many jobs or was seen always lending a hand to anyone he could. He worked for the Sierra Army Depot for 21 years before medically retiring in 1973, Lassen Community College for several years, the Susanville school district as maintenance until retiring in 1997. Pete would often be spotted on cold wintery days shoveling the sidewalks from McKinley school down to Ash Street so students would have a safe walk to school.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marion “Ruth” Stout, his son Lawrence Paul Stout, his daughter-in-law Kathy Summerhill, his Father and Mother Leroy and Ruth Dorothy Stout, and Brothers Clarence, Robert and Paul Stout.

He is survived by his children, Cynthia Kay Cooper and husband Mark of Kingman, Az., Kenna Rae Waddell and husband Arthur of Wilton, Ca. , and Son Tim Stout and wife Cindy of Susanville, Ca. 9 Grandchildren,13 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many who will love and miss him.
