A Reno man was killed and a Doyle man injured Wednesday evening in head-on collision that occurred south of Scott’s Road on Highway 395.
According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, a man identified as 60-year old Reno, Nevada resident Wesley Anderson, was driving his gray Mazda-3 south on the highway when he attempted to pass a big rig over double-yellow lines, approaching a curve, with his view obstructed by a hill.
Witnesses estimated that Anderson was traveling approximately 85 to 90mph.
At the same time 65- year old Doyle resident Thomas Pourchot was driving his 2019 gray GMC Sierra north on the highway at 69mph around the blind curve when he saw the Mazda driving south at a high rate of speed in the northbound lane.
“Pourchot attempted to avoid a collision by braking and turning the GMC to right shoulder. Anderson, simultaneously, attempted to take evasive action by turning the Mazda left to the same shoulder of the road.”
The vehicles collided head-on on the east shoulder of the highway.
Anderson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Pourchot suffered minor injuries and was transported to Renown Hospital for medical treatment.
This collision is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
