A Reno man received major injuries Tuesday morning in a head-on collision between a Mazda SUV and a Kenworth semi-truck that occurred just south of County Road A25 on Highway 395.
At around 5:33a.m., according to details provided by the Susanville Office of the California Highway Patrol, a 2008 Mazda driven by a 62-year old Reno man whose name is not yet being released, crossed into the path of a 2019 Kenworth truck and trailer combination being driven by 57-year old Spanway, Washington resident Mike Scott.
Scott tried to avoid a collision with the Mazda which struck the front of the Kenworth head-on.
Emergency Personnel from SEMSA, Sierra Army Depot Fire, Milford Fire and CHP responded to the scene.
The driver of the Mazda was extricated from his vehicle and then flown to Renown Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Kenworth Semi was not injured in the collision.
The collision also resulted in a hazardous materials spill from the ruptured saddle tanks of the semi and the highway was closed for around 2-hours to facilitate hazmat cleanup and for collision scene investigation. The cause of this collision is currently under investigation.
