Barnyard Bliss with a Remarkable Twist at the Lassen County Fair culminated with a bang at the Junior Livestock Auction!
The sale raised over $370,020 with the sale of market steers, dairy steers, meat duck pens, geese, swine, turkeys, lambs, rabbits, goats, and poultry pens.
What a show of great support from the community and surrounding areas for the youths of Lassen County! Following are the results:
The 2024 auction began with the sale of the Market Steers! The Baehler sisters from Westwood FFA dominated the show with their Supreme and Reserve Supreme steers. Merilyn Baehler, sold her Grand Champion Market Steer to Hat Creek Construction, for $5.50/lb.
Westwood FFA’s Reagan Baehler followed up with the Reserve Supreme Champion Steer which was purchased by the Les Schwab Tires for $5.35/lb. The Local Bred and Fed award went to Peyton Pratt and was bred by Wolf Ranch.
The Champion Dairy Steer was exhibited by Megan vonHelf, Richmond 4-H, and sold for $3,975.00 to AXIA Home Loans.
The Supreme Market Duck pen was purchased by Jim Grimes-Rice Canyon Ranches for $1,300 from Lewis Hahn, Richmond 4-H and Dr. Kasey Christiansen Mobil Veterinary Services bought the Reserve Champion Market Duck pen for $700 which was shown by Yamuth Rodriguez, Susanville FFA.
Yamuth Rodriguez, Susanville FFA, also exhibited the Supreme Champion Goose which was sold for $650 to MLJ Show Cattle and Norseman Custom Rods.
“Honk Williams,” the Reserve Supreme Goose, was sold by Derek Cook from Richmond 4-H to Jim Grimes Rice Canyon Ranches for $725.
The Grand Champion Market hog raised by Paige Parker, Susanville FFA, was purchased by Banner Lassen Medical Center for $17.00/lb. and Lassen County Sheriff John McGarva bought the Reserve Grand Champion Hog from Madison Baehler, Westwood FFA for $14/ lb.
The winner of the Local Bred and Fed award went to Avarie Pratt for her hog that was bred by Brett and Kim Fleming.
Willis Dow, Kaitlyn Midgley, and Jim Grimes-Rice Canyon Ranches bought the Grand Champion Turkey from Judah Jaso, a Lake 4-H member, for $1,100. Trinity Kellogg, Westwood FFA, raised the Reserve Supreme Champion Turkey which sold to Ashley Hahn and Kim Fleming for $925.00.
Jim Grimes-Rice Canyon Rances purchased the Grand Champion Market lamb for $36.00/lb. from Danielle Murphy, Susanville FFA and Napa Auto Parts bought the Reserve Grand Champion lamb from Samuel Blue, Milford 4-H, for $25/lb.
Local breeders Terry and Debi Savage bred the lamb shown by Sam Blue who was the recipient of the Jack and Pat Haslem Memorial Award for the best local bred and fed lamb.
Lassen Rents bought the Supreme Champion rabbit meat pen from Aubreann Rotlisberger, Richmond 4-H, for $925. The Reserve Champion meat pen was raised by Peyton Canton, Susanville FFA and sold to MLJ Show Cattle and Norseman Custom Rods for $900.
The winner of the Local Bred and Fed rabbit meat pen was Tyffanie Wilson, and her Satin rabbit meat pen was bred by Herlong FFA.
Aspen Borba, Susanville FFA topped the market goat sale by selling the Supreme Grand Champion and Best Fed and Bred goat to Savage Sheep Ranch Feed Supply for $14.00/lb. The goat was bred by Lazy S Boer Goats. Paige Parker, Susanville FFA, sold the Reserve Supreme to Savage Sheep Ranch Feed Supply for $12.50/lb.
The Supreme Grand Champion Poultry meat pen was exhibited by Sativa Rodriguez from Herlong FFA and was purchased by Mark and Laura Rotlisberger for $500. The Reserve Champion poultry pen was raised by Dylan Deehan from Milford 4-H and sold to Ryan Burris and sold for $300.
