Runaway Snowplow Damages Uptown Building and Historic Mural

A runaway snowplow damaged the historic mural and exterior wall of the Verizon Store on Gay Street.

A quick-thinking driver, with brakes failing on his plow and traffic ahead on Main Street, made a fast turn onto south Gay Street and struck the wall of an uptown retailer September 7th damaging both the building’s exterior and a historic mural of ‘Dad Popcorn’.

According to details released by the Susanville Police Department, officers responded to Main Street at Gay Street shortly after 1:00p.m., after receiving a report that a truck with a snowplow attachment had hit the Verizon building on the corner of the intersection. The vehicle’s plow struck, and caused damage to, the west wall of the building.

The snowplow had a driver and a passenger and neither they, or anyone else, were injured in the collision.

According to the driver the vehicle experienced a brake failure while driving eastbound on Main Street and turned onto Gay Street to avoid heavy traffic.
