Susanville Fire Chief James Moore and Police Chief Jim Uptegrove issued a joint statement today warning local residents to be aware of a currently active scam which involves a ‘security and fire protection’ company based out of Livermore California.
According to this morning’s press release the Susanville Fire Department was contacted by the Redding Fire Department and advised of fraudulent activity being conducted in our area.
The target of this activity is business owners or operators that are provided an invoice from Red Mountain Security and Fire Protection stating that an annual fire safety inspection, test and certification had been conducted at the business location.
One invoice received by the police department is requesting $413.11 payable to the company with a false address of 4435 N. First Street in Livermore California.
The Susanville Fire Department and Susanville Police Department is reminding all residents that if they receive a bill or invoice for services they do not routinely subscribe to or remember, they should verify the invoice by contacting the company prior to making the payment.
Many times common frauds can be identified by doing a simple online Google search under the name of the company listed on the invoice.
