One structure and one vehicle were severly damaged, two structures received moderate damage and a vehicle was burned before firefighters could halt the fire’s progress Saturday night on Shasta Street.
Crews from the Susanville City Fire Department’s Engine-621 responded to 704 Shasta Street shortly after 10:00p.m., for a structure fire, arriving on scene to find a fully involved, single-story structure threatening multiple exposures.
“Fire units started using defensive tactics to slow the rate of fire spread to the exposure,” explains SFD Captain Andrew Jarrett.
“With assistance from multiple agencies Susanville City Fire Department was able to stop the progress of the fire on the exposures and then extinguished the main body of fire.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“The fire progress was stopped with one structure severely damaged, two structures with moderate damage, one vehicle severely damaged, and one vehicle with minor burn marks on the front end.”
The Susanville City Fire Department received auto-aid and mutual-aid from Cal-FIRE, CDCR, Susan River Fire, Standish Lichfield, Janesville, and Milford units. Susanville City Fire Department also received assistance from LMUD, Susanville City Gas Department, Susanville City Police Department, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and the Red Cross.
