Sheriff’s Update: Westwood Man Identified as Victim of Residential Structure Fire

Human remains found January 14th, after fire completely destroyed a home on Ash Street in Westwood, have been identified by the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office as 67-year old Westwood resident David Allen Yount.

Deputies from the LCSO responded to the structure fire on Ash Street, arriving to find the single story residence fully engulfed in flames.

“Due to the intense fire activity, Deputies were unable to safely enter the residence,” explains LCSO Operations Division Commander Captain Mike Carney.

“Deputies began evacuating surrounding residences until fire personnel arrived on scene.”

Once the fire was contained, Westwood Fire personnel and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office located the human remains inside the residence.

“Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office made removal of the remains, where they were later transferred to the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.”

On  January 19th, the medical examiners office identified the victim by x-ray comparison.

“Our condolences go out to Mr. Yount’s family and friends,” said Carney.
