May 16th through the 22nd was National Public Works Week and the Susanville City Council honored our local Public Works Department at its Wednesday meeting.
“So much of the work that Public Works does it taken for granted,” said Susanville Mayor Mendy Schuster. “When we turn the water on, it works. We turn on a burner on the stove, gas is there. We come home from work to see that the street sweeper cleaned up in front of our house.”
Schuster had some interesting statistics concerning the Public Works Department’s accomplishments since January 1st:
The Street Department has swept up more than 4 semi-truck loads of dirt and debris from our streets.
Over the course of two days in January the Public Works Department moved 219,000 cubic yards of snow out of the streets.
The Geothermal department has pumped 28,800 gallons of geothermal water through the system.
The Water department has delivered 183 million gallons of safe, great tasting water.
The Natural Gas department has delivered 108 million cubic feet of gas; enough to drive a car around the world more than 700 times.
