A Susanville man was arrested on multiple charges December 26th after a high-speed chase that ended in Johnsonville when the suspect’s car crashed through a fence and caught fire, forcing the man to flee on foot.
According to details released by the California Highway Patrol, at around 2:18p.m. on December 26th, the Susanville Police Department advised Highway Patrol dispatch that they were in pursuit of 24-year old Corey Cutler who had an active felony warrant for his arrest.
Cutler was reportedly driving a white Ford Mustang in the area of Alexander in Sierra streets in Susanville when the vehicle collided with a fence behind the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Richmond road.
The vehicle continued eastbound on Richmond road and CHP picked up the pursuit near Bantley Drive where they clocked the car at 83 miles per hour.
The Mustang turned South on Diamond Crest road, then turned left at the intersection with Thornton road where the roadway quickly dead-ended into a cul-de-sac.
“In a further attempt to escape capture,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Kristin Wilburn, “Cutler drove the Mustang through another fence in an attempt to return to the roadway on US 395.”
“The vehicle became ensnared in fencing and stopped after damaging approximately 250 feet of fence.”
Cutler then exited the vehicle and fled on foot, crossing US 395 towards Theater Road where CHP officers quickly apprehended him without further incident.
The Mustang that Cutler was driving caught fire shortly after he fled on foot and CHP officers were able to extinguish the blaze, containing the fire to the area immediately adjacent to the vehicle.
No officers or suspects were injured as a result of the incident and Cutler was booked on charges related to evading an officer and destruction of property.
