The Lassen County Sheriff’s Department is releasing details of an early Tuesday morning arrest on Tako Nee Street which left a Susanville resident charged with possession of an assault rifle and criminal trespass.
According to Sergeant Kevin Jones the Sheriff’s Department responded early this morning to a home on Tako Nee Street on a report of a break-in.
The homeowner told Deputies that someone had unlawfully entered her residence and confronted her, yelling at her. The victim fled her home to another residence and called for law enforcement.
“Deputies responded and made entry to the home,” said Sergeant Jones, “They located and arrested Maitland Carpenter, a 34-year old Susanville resident.”
In addition to finding him unlawfully in the home, Carpenter was discovered to be in possession of a Romanian AK-47 style rifle with a 30 cartridge magazine and a large amount of ammunition.
Carpenter was booked into the Lassen County Jail on possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of an assault weapon and criminal trespass. His bail has not been set yet.
