The California Highway Patrol is reporting that a 28 year-old Susanville resident was hurt in a single-vehicle collision near Byers Pass Road on US 395 early Thursday morning.
According to details released by the CHP, Colton Dye, was northbound on highway 395 at around 4:00a.m., driving, “at an unknown excessive speed.”
“Due to Dye’s excessive speed,” continues the report, “he was unable to negotiate a slight left curve in the roadway.”
The 1999 Ford traveled off the west roadway edge and rotated in a counter clockwise manner. The passenger side of vehicle struck an LMUD power pole, sheering it off at the base.
Dye was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by fire personnel.
The Susanville man suffered major injuries as a result of the collision and was transported via ambulance to Banner Lassen Medical Center, then later transferred to Renown Medical Center in Reno via helicopter for treatment of his injuries.
