Susanville Salvation Army Starts Season Strong

The holiday season is officially underway and the Susanville Salvation Army’s first Red Kettle day of 2013 is in the books and the totals are in. Local Salvation Army coordinator Juanita Williams reports that the generous folks of Lassen County contributed more than $800 dollars on their opening day of bell ringing.

All during the season you will find Salvation Army bell ringers at Billington ACE Hardware, Safeway, WalMart and Susanville Supermarket IGA.

“Also, we have our Counter Kettles at Johnson’s Shoes, Tum-A-Lum Lumber, The Pardner, Susanville Pizza Factory, and Janesville Pizza Factory,” said Williams, “Thanks to all the stores for supporting us! Every penny you give really adds up!”

If you’d like to help by ringing the bell, please call Gloria at 251-3596 and she will get you signed up.

Every cent put in the red kettles stays right here in Lassen County to assist our community members. The Salvation Army has set a goal of $36,500 this year; the same amount of assistance the organization gave in the community during the last year.

“It’s a huge goal and we need everyone’s help to meet it!” said Williams. Whether you drop a few coins in the kettle, donate food, purchase gifts for an Angel Giving Tree (up now at Walmart) or ring the bell, you are helping the Salvation Army help others.

Susanville’s two Rotary Clubs will have a friendly bell ringing competition on December 9th, when members of the Sunrise Club will be ringing the bell at Safeway and the Noon Club will be at taking contributions at Susanville Supermarket.

Rotarians from the two organizations will be ringing the bell between 9:00a.m. and 7:00p.m. in front of the two stores.
