The Susanville Symphony Academy will hold a special fundraising dinner this evening at the Susanville Church of the Nazarene, to help fund the purchase of music, instructional materials, professional clinicians, practice venue, instruments, instrument repair and student scholarships.
“The Academy exists to provide musical education to kids age 8 to adult,” explains fundraiser organizer Nancy Harris.
“This season, starting in September 2022, we started a beginning musician class taught by Kayla Millar, also a high school teach and LUHS. Those in the program are learning to read music and started practicing on flutophones.”
“The students were also shown various brass, wind and string instruments and were able to choose the instrument they wanted to learn. The first term culminated at our concert in December. During the second term, those students are practicing their chosen instrument, Beginning musicians meet on a weekly basis for an hour.”
The Academy continues to offer String Ensemble and Wind Ensemble two Mondays a month and Concert Strings and Concert Band the other two Mondays per month under the direction of Craig Harris, who also is the music teacher at Richmond Elementary School.
“This is an exciting year for these bands and ensembles as we continue to see interest not only from students but from adult mentors who wish to become more proficient with their own instruments.”
Tickets for the dinner, which begins at 6:00 in the church at 1825 Spring Ridge Drive, are $30 and may be purchased at Margie’s Book Nook or by calling Nancy at 1.541.301.0813.
