Susanville’s K-9 Unit Has a Busy Wednesday

The Susanville Police Department’s K-9 Officer Zeke and his handler, Officer Hoover, had a busy Wednesday – returning from training to make three drug related arrests in one shift.

First, according to Susanville Police Chief Kevin Jones, Officers Hoover and Zeke made a traffic stop for a traffic violation and the dog alerted to an area of the vehicle that resulted in an arrest for heroin, methamphetamine and an outstanding warrant out of Shasta County.

Chief Jones said that a man identified as Susanville resident Bryce Cole was arrested for a warrant out of Shasta County, along with miscellaneous drug charges. 27-year old Susanville resident Jamie Goldman was also arrested and booked for driving on a suspended license and various drug charges.

“Only an hour later,” said Jones, “Zeke was requested to assist LCSO on a traffic stop. Zeke alerted to an area of the vehicle that resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine which resulted in an arrest for drug possession.”

But Zeke and Hoover were not finished! To end their shift the pair responded to a call of a vehicular hit and run within the City.

On arrival Zeke alerted on the vehicle to discover heroin. Although the suspect was not arrested, the investigation will result in an arrest warrant for the suspect submitted to the DA’s office.

“I want to thank our community and all donors for supporting the K-9 program at the Police Department,” said Jones. “Zeke is making a difference in our community! I can’t forget Officer Hoover who is our K-9 Handler and who has dedicated countless hours to this program.”
