Tomorrow is the start of the Lassen County Fair and the highlight of the evening is always the annual Miss Lassen County Scholarship Competition.
This is the 55th year of the pageant which locals look forward to every year. The new Miss Lassen County will be chosen by two panels of judges who look at the contestants’ scholastic achievement, community service, personality interview, public speaking, talent, poise, and impromptu skills.
This year, nine of Lassen County’s best vie for the title and crown with a nod to Taylor Swift in “MLC The Eras Tour”.
Throughout the last six weeks they have received training in writing and giving speeches, interview tips, stage presence, and much more. They have also learned the opening number, made appearances in the community, and become more confident.
Tressa Guess of Thunder Mt. Photography provided a photo shoot and each contestant chose a Taylor Swift era to explore with their choice of costume and pose.
Let’s meet the contestants and the eras they chose:
Kahlen Somerville, Debut

Kahlen’s favorite event to watch at the fair is the pig show. She has shown in the past and will watch her siblings show this year. Her family always attends the parade.
Tammy Justice, Fearless

Tammy will always remember when Granger Smith took her phone during the concert, took a picture, and signed her case. She is looking forward to spending time with her family from out of town and eating corn dogs, fries, and funnel cakes.
Katelyn Kirack, Speak Now

One of Katelyn’s most memorable moments at the fair is when she won Supreme Grand Champion for her lamb in 2022.

Every year Renee looks forward to watching her friends showing their animals because they are so cute.

Hannah says Olivia Ormachea has been a memorable Miss Lassen County because she is the most helpful with a bright smile and brings inspiration to many.

Hayley loves seeing so many people she knows and meeting new friends at the fair. She also enjoys fair food.
