Today is “Gold Fever at LHS” and I’ve had a great time being Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company. When I was a kid, my parents let me stay up late on Tuesdays so I could watch Chrissy, Janet, Jack, and their crazy antics. Don’t judge. It was the 70s.
To prep for today, I borrowed some yearbooks from the 70s and let the ASB kids do some research.
They loved seeing how Lassen High has changed (and in some cases, how it hasn’t) and recognized their grandparents, neighbors, aunts, and uncles. I overheard one group oohing and ahhing over “a really hot girl” so I glanced over to see if I knew her.
There was Lynn (Foster) Sheehy’s beautiful face. Yes! I said, I do know her!
In 1971, the Rays from the Purple, showcased their Homecoming pages in color. (“They had color pictures in the 70s?” one student observed.)
The parade took place on Main Street with each float featuring creations made of tissue paper and chicken wire.
Pam Booth was crowned Homecoming Queen. Reverend David Proffit was the Alumnus of the Year. The marching band was resplendent as they strutted down Main in their plumed hats and velvet jackets.
As the students looked over each page, I wondered if they thought about how their yearbooks will be viewed in the future. Will their fashions be laughed at or admired? Will their grandchildren look for a resemblance? We don’t often think about our legacy until it’s already been left.
Support Lassen High’s Homecoming by attending the Powder Puff game on Wednesday. Game time is at 7:00 and there will be lots of yummy food trucks to choose your dinner from. Mini Benniez will be offering their delectable beignets.
Zato’s Sno Mt. Shaved Ice will have street dogs, smoked mac-n-cheese, specialty drinks, boba, and of course their one-of-a-kind shaved ice. Vegas Double Down BBQ is serving up pulled pork sandwiches with a special meal deal.
Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
