Today feels like Spring! Yes, I know that it snowed yesterday and will definitely snow again in the coming months, but today the sun is shining and the chill in air is just more springy and a little hopeful too.
Which of course means the start of football season at Lassen High School. Wait…what? Football season? Yep, with the restrictions on youth sports recently lifted, LHS plans to start practicing this week and we will have a game schedule out soon.
Last year’s athletes had their spring sports cancelled, while this year’s will cram all three seasons into one. I will be posting updated game info as it becomes available.
You have another chance to catch the Cross Country team in action this Friday at Ranch Park, races start at 2:30, 3:00, 3:30, and 4:00 against UPrep.
This past weekend, I took Landon and Sofia to watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It’s the third installment in the series and the characters are more mature, the themes a little darker, and the villains are scarier. It’s one of my favorites because Sirius Black makes his first appearance as Harry’s godfather.
At one point, Dumbledore says, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” This struck me because as we near the one-year anniversary of our now normal, I have been fortunate to have many people who have turned on the light for me.
It starts at home of course, with my kids and husband who have used this time to better themselves. Encouraging me to take a walk, watch a new show, or try a new recipe.
It flows from my colleagues and friends: Jessica Larson, Marilyn Struthers, and Kerrissa Schall who show up with chocolate or a plant or a funny Tik Tok video to make me laugh and look at the day in a more positive way. They always seem to know when I need it the most.
It makes me want to turn on the light for others. As Sirius later says, “We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”
Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
