A powerful Pacific storm will continue to affect Northeast California and Western Nevada through at least Wednesday according to forecasters at the National Weather Service’s Reno office. BlizzardĀ conditions are expected in the Eastern Sierra and Carson RangeĀ with snow continuing in Northeast California above 5,000 feet today and tonight.
Here in the Honey Lake Valley gusty winds will continue with rain and snowĀ showers. Another storm is possible ThursdayĀ bringing moreĀ snow to WesternĀ Nevada and northeastern California, but winds will be lighter.
A break in the active patternĀ is expected this weekend.
WINTER STORM WARNING
A Winter Storm WarningĀ will beĀ in effect until 4:00a.m., Thursday.
Heavy snow will continue through Wednesday night at the upper elevations.
Snow accumulations through Thursday morning: 2 to 4 feet alongĀ Highway 89 with 1 to 2 feet east to Highway 395. Up to 12 inchesĀ along and east of Highway 395.
Winds: south to southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph.Ā Gusts to 65 mph along Highway 395 this afternoon and evening.
Snow levels: rising to 5,500 feet this afternoon then falling to the valley floors this evening.
Impacts: dangerous conditions for travel and outdoor activities.Ā Whiteout conditions are possible over mountain passes and areasĀ along Highway 395.
BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT TRAVEL IN THE EASTERN SIERRA. LIFE THREATENING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE OCCURING IN PLACES AND WILL CONTINUEĀ THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.
Chances are increasing for accumulating snow in western NV valleysĀ Wednesday night into Thursday.
