Parents and students are invited Tuesday night, September 29th, as the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office Prevention and Education Program presents an interactive social media Zoom presentation that will bring you up to speed on the latest apps and how to talk with your kids about using digital tools to shine online.

Over the course of 60-90 minutes the program’s presenter, Josh Ochs will talk about what apps are unsafe, and others you should encourage your kids to use. He will also talk about what apps are a waste of time for your teens and tweens.

Worried about how you appear online? Ochs will explain how to analyze your Google results to see what colleges will find when you apply, and how to bury bad Google results from other users with your similar name.

With a background in marketing at Disney, Ochs teaches more than 30,000 students each year via Zoom how to build their own positive brand using social media, and shows parents how to protect their students.

Ochs is also an author whose six books teach students of all ages that everything they post on social media will eventually be discovered by their parents, teachers, their school Principal and someday colleges and employers.

He shows families and teens practical examples they can use to always keep it positive and full of gratitude on by posting photos of community volunteer projects that will help them shine online. Watch some of his videos at SmartSocial.com

The parent presentation will be 6:30p.m., and parents, guardians and caregivers who aren’t able to attend can view a recording of the presentation for a month after the event.

“We highly recommend attending!” says LCSO Youth Services Officer Lisa Bernard. “Josh does a demonstration on how to lock your child’s device down before handing it to them that is outstanding!”

“We’re also providing presentations to all school staff members and students county-wide. These events are free to all participants and have been paid for through the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant which funds substance abuse and violence prevention programs in schools throughout the county.

The event is free to parents and students and you can register at: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_0aq52770ROuctd92JtJZwQ
