A 46-year old Sandy, Utah, resident was killed early Saturday morning when the 2017 Nissan SUV he was driving collided with a big-rig south of Doyle on US Highway 395.
According to details provided by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, the head-on collision occurred at around 7:00a.m., just north of S. Constantia Road.
The driver of a 2015 Peterbilt, identified by the CHP as 48-year old Eagle Point, Oregon resident James Caetano was southbound on the highway when the driver of the Nissan, driving northbound, drove into the path of the three-axle truck.
The force of the collision, according to the CHP report, caused the Nissan to overturn, and it came to rest on the northbound shoulder of the highway.
The truck came to rest partially blocking the southbound lane.
The driver of the Nissan was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending the notification of the next of kin.
The driver of the Peterbilt was transported to Renown Medical Center for evaluation.
The CHP report noted that no other parties were involved in this collision.
