Valley Landmark Gets a Helping Hand

Kudos to the Hemphill family for rebuilding a classic valley landmark on their ranch – the old windmill just west of highway 395 on SR36 on the way into Susanville has been a favorite of local photographers for many years.

The pastoral setting, with its fields and barns, is the first view many travelers have of Susanville. The windmill adds a touch of rustic charm along the highway.

The wood-framed windmill was knocked down during the powerful windstorm that swept through northern California in early February.
