Wayne Ruben Sullivan
Wayne Ruben Sullivan was born December 20th, 1953 in Happy Camp, CA., to Ruben and Doris Sullivan. He left us to be with our Heavenly Father on August 11th, 2014. Wayne spent his early childhood in Happy Camp, CA where is father worked as a forest ranger and his mother a homemaker. He loved playing in the forest with his older siblings, Robert and Sharon, and German Shepard Heidi.
In 1965 he moved with his family to San Leandro, CA where he was proud to start work at a young age on a paper route. He attended Thomas Jefferson high school and worked on a car lot. He also joined the wrestling team where he quickly advanced to the highest weight division. He joined the golf team and won many tournaments. At 17, he moved with his parents to Susanville, CA where he lived the rest of his life.
He attended Lassen high school and worked at Deal and Davie. He graduated Lassen high in 1971. He attended Lassen Community College then graduated from Butte Police Academy. He was a reserve for the Susanville Police Department until 1976. When they permanently hired him as an officer. He promoted to sergeant in 1980 at the young age of 26.
In 1982 he met his wife Carol Ragsdale with whom they had their three children Daniel, Tarah and Bryan. In that time he also shared his life with his beloved German Shepard Megan who went everywhere with him.
In 1991 Wayne was awarded Officer of the Year. He loved any outdoor activity and took pride in cutting firewood for many local families. He spent much of his spare time taking his kids and dog camping, fishing, shooting and deer hunting. He loved body building and was a master craftsman at building wood furniture. He loved spending dinners with his many friends. Wayne retired from the Susanville Police Department in 2004. He quickly had an itch to get back into law enforcement. He joined the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department where he worked for the next five years.
Wayne was honored to have his two sons follow him into law enforcement. His pride and joy were his four grandchildren. Wayne’s best quality was his ability to brighten anyone’s day with his jokes and sense of humor. He leaves behind his father Ruben Sullivan, sister Sharon Fetterman, brother in law Phil, nephews Michael, James, Lucas, Michael and Matthew, niece Sarah, grandnieces Lilly, Gaby and Ananda, grandnephew Chase. Son and daughter in law Danny and Marie Sullivan, son Bryan Sullivan, daughter and son in law Tarah and Chris Baumiller, grandchildren Wyatt, Averie, Waylon and Wesley.
